Birmingham researchers have been instrumental in everything from revealing the structure of our DNA to developing new treatments for cancer with 10 Nobel Prize winners amongst its alumni and staff. The first variable rate pacemaker was developed here, and we led the way in setting up COVID 19 testing during the pandemic.

And right now, in laboratories and clinics across the campus, researchers are developing treatments and cures that have the potential to save lives. Among them is Professor Jason Parsons and his team, whose work is shaping next-generation radiotherapy techniques, enabling clinicians to target tumours with extraordinary precision while minimising long-term side effects, ultimately supporting faster recovery and a better quality of life beyond cancer.

“Your gift to Birmingham Gives will allow researchers like me turn bold ideas into real-world progress, undertaking early pilot studies that will help unlock major breakthroughs for some of today’s biggest global health challenges.”
